Abstract
Content analysis of network television newscasts and of the front pages of the New York Times
and the Washington Post during the first year of the presidencies of Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton
and George W. Bush revealed a heavy focus on the executive branch rather than the legislative
and judicial branches. Tone of coverage of the executive branch was consistently less negative
than coverage of the legislative branch during the first year of these three presidencies.
