Propaganda-facilitated regime change in Iran
Abstract
International attention is currently fixated on the Iranian ‘threat’, and there is every
indication in the American media that the Bush administration may lead America into
another Middle Eastern bloodbath. Given these dire predictions, this paper will
investigate two aspects of America’s propaganda offensive against Iran. Initially, it will
examine how the American media is manufacturing public consent for another illegal
war: then it will investigate how the ostensibly democratic National Endowment of
Democracy is being used by the US government in an attempt to overthrow the Iranian
government from within. Finally, the paper will argue that when both of these strategies
are considered together an illegal war may not in fact be on the horizon, and the US
government may be counting on a propaganda-facilitated ouster of President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad instead.
