You Must Read This: A content analysis of the most e-mailed stories from five
major online news sites, Feb. 3 to 16, 2007

ABSTRACT: The lists of most e-mailed stories presented on many news web sites
present a new tool for evaluating reader preference. This study analyzes the topics,
treatments and news values present in most e-mailed stories from five major online news
sites during a two week period. The study uses established coding methodologies to allow
comparison with prior research into the types of stories generally present in newspapers
and on newspaper front pages.
