Eastern University’s International Programs Challenge: Combining
Theology, Andragogy and Pedagogy
The School of Leadership and Development (SLD), Eastern University’s primary vehicle
for international education, is challenged to ensure the effectiveness of its teaching and learning
methods, especially before expanding further into new international contexts. While the School
of Leadership and Development and its parent university body, the Campolo College of Graduate
and Professional Studies (CCGPS) are actively engaged in ensuring program alignment with the
university mission, integrating core competencies across curriculum and planning to assess
learning outcomes, this is an opportune time to evaluate assumptions that underpin SLD’s
international programs. Specifically, determining the extent to which Christian theology,
andragogical principles and priorities for cross-cultural education are reinforcing, provides new
information for Eastern University and its programs but also for better understanding teaching
and learning in international contexts, in general.
