Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Abstract: Researchers have begun to examine prison rape as a serious correctional problem. For this project several hundred male inmates inside prison units with various custody levels across a Southwestern state’s prison system were sampled and given a questionnaire. Inmates’ responses to open-ended prompts about recommended strategies to avoid prison sexual assault are examined. Also, inmates’ responses to close-ended questions about feelings of safety regarding sexual assault are examined. Implications of these strategies and attitudes regarding prison sexual assault are discussed. |
