Migration, the Community Resource Dimension and the Environment: A Synthetic Framework for Migration and Environment Research

Abstract:

There has been a growing literature on the mutual relationship between migration and the environment, as well as the concept of community in community-based natural resource management (CBNRM). Institutions defining community natural resource use and management emerge as a key theme in both fields. A community perspective framework for future migration and environment research is developed based on synthesis of literatures. The core assumption is that the set of institutions adjusting community members’ interaction in the natural resource domain is a critical intervening variable in the dynamic relationship between migration and the environment.
