Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Abstract: Based on research on the role of indigenous African justice philosophy in the administration of justice in a modern State, this paper argues that the punishment of offenders in African State criminal justice systems is tempered by African values and indigenous justice principles. Thus, the article identifies the principles of African indigenous justice systems in the practice of African State criminal justice systems. The extent to which the principles shape the justice in the State system is also considered. |
