Abstract:

This research delves into the efficacy of neighborhood associations and use of informal social control in increasing quality-of-life variables. In an analysis that compares formal complaints to informal local-level intervention efforts, we attempt to identify if and how informal social control increases community involvement, strengthens environmental factors and encourages feelings of safety and security.
