Abstract:

This study examined framing in international coverage of Kosovo’s status negotiations and whether the stage of the negotiations affected choice of frame. The results indicate that overall international news agencies reported on this issue with an “episodic frame” emphasizing mostly the “conflict” nature of the issue. However, a major difference emerged between Western and non-Western agencies, as ITAR-TASS employed “attribution of responsibility” frame more commonly that Reuters, AFP, and AP. Also, media frames over the two year period appeared to be static rather than dynamic.
