Abstract:
|
We examine sex segregation in fields of baccalaureate degree using three measures (D, SSD, A). Segregation declined much more rapidly before the mid-1980s. Desegregation results from women’s entry into “male” fields such as business, natural sciences, and engineering; desegregation stalled as these increases leveling off. Men have not increased entry into “female” fields (education, nursing, sociology, English), but neither are they “tipping.” Recently, women’s and men’s choices of traditionally male fields trend together. |
