| HOW THE PUBLIC AFFAIRS CONTENT OF NETWORK TV NEWS AFFECTS THE SIZE OF THE NEWS AUDIENCE* John Zaller UCLA NBC Nightly News distinguished itself during the murder trial of O.J. Simpson for its relentless coverage of the spectacle. This caused consternation at rival ABC World News where according to Peter Jennings top managers were determined not to "devote any more time to the [trial] than we thought the case on the merits warranted." But journalistic virtue was not rewarded. |
