Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Review Method: Peer Reviewed Abstract: Efforts to influence foreign as opposed to domestic policy have always been treated by many as a special area. One that raises concerns for some about the predominance of parochial interests at the expense of national interests, the imposition of politics beyond the water's edge, dual loyalties, primordial attachments, and challenges to the imperative to find consensus on matters of foreign policy. These concerns as well as others have acutely influenced, defined, and limited Asian American foreign policy activism due in large part to what Angelo Ancheta refers to as the persistent outsider racialization of Asian Americans. This paper considers the experience of Asian Americans interested in influencing foreign policy, and the dilemmas they have faced.
