Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Review Method: Peer Reviewed Abstract: This paper seeks to address some of the blind spots in International Relations Theory by focusing on the role of environmental movements in Africa's international relations. It postulates that in a highly globalising world, non-state actors in Nigeria's Niger Delta are transcending state borders and sovereignty, and building trans-national alliances, that project their interests into global arena, while confronting global forces - oil multinationals and the State, locally. This strengthens the case for the transformation of International relations theory in ways that include African perspectives, by recognizing and reconstructing the role of African non-state actors. |
