Abstract
Teaching Public Administration Online: What links work, how, and when?
Professors teaching online courses increasingly supplement course
reading materials with website URL links to content and other web
pages. There are currently few empirical studies that examine the
extent to which these supplementary readings add value to overall
learning processes. For the most part, additional readings support
student research and term paper responsibilities. The paper examines
the use of links to professional associations and websites of interest
to the field. The central research question is how do educators in
public administration employ these links and to what extent do links
reinforce student learning objectives? This paper suggests that online
and web enhanced courses can be enriched if and when instructors
clarify reasons for including the links in the course syllabi as well
as directly tying class assignments and participation to contacting the
respective websites.
