Abstract:

A study of Machiavelli?s Prince (with brief notes on the Discourses). By using simple instruments of semiotic analysis I argue that the text construes the political as the domain of the public whereas the moral is relegated into the private sphere.

Machiavelli in Crete: Politics Lies (and no Videotape) Towards a Textual Analysis of The Prince Between Semantic Universe and Political Relevance By Bruno Anili Introduction The richness of the great texts in the tradition of Political Thought presents the readers with extraordinary possibilities of analysis. Often times though the fame that such texts enjoy elicits a certain rigidity of interpretation that can reduce their semantic complexity to a more or less accurate catachresis or at least a drastic simplification.
