Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Abstract: Surfing a global wave: Internet news use and cultural boundaries Abstract This age of global communication has revived a debate among scholars about whether culture still matters. This study brings this debate to the study of online news use. An international survey tests whether cultural boundaries can be used to predict differences in the choices individuals make when accessing online news. The findings suggest cultural boundaries are nearly, though not completely, absent in many of the news decisions individuals make, and that online news is being used in a highly individualized manner.
