Abstract:

The poster will present findings from a study of parental beliefs concerning sexual orientation for their 6-10 year old daughters in two cultural groups: Asian Indian and Anglo-American. Preliminary analyses of the Gender Roles Questionnaire (Prasad & Baron, 2002) and semi-structured interviews indicate strong resistance to the idea of non-heterosexual identities among Indian immigrant parents and a “politically correct”, limited acceptance in American families.
