Abstract:

This paper displays the short history of the Turkish economy, the financial sector, and its regulation in the last three decades. We argued that domestic actors could benefit from the support of external actors on their behalf. Politicians and bureaucrats always complain about the structural obstacles before their way to perform necessary and useful reforms. We argued that domestic players might think about the support of those external actors who could keep stubborn anti-reform front under control at home. This opportunity may not appear so often. However, if someone sees such an opportunity, he/she should not waste it; and use it to the end.
