World War II and backpassing of the U.S.Japan alliance. World War II left the
Japanese pacifist sentiment. The benefit of U.S.Japan alliance has definitely got into
the blood of the Japanese publics; Peace is maintained without shedding own blood.
The fate of Japan’s new nationalism remains to be seen. However, it will be quite
unlikely to see Japan’s foreign and defense policies shift from the political realists’
paradigm all the way through the gaullists’ paradigm. Nevertheless, Japan’s role and
responsibility in international relations has risen tremendously for the past 50 years.
Even if Japan wants to remain the way she is, the world and the United States will not
afford to see Japan stand still in the 21
st
Century.
