Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Abstract: This paper will assess the impact of both the Special Court and Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Sierra Leone. It will look at the interplay between the two institutions and assess their contribution to 1. the ongoing peace process 2. helping to strengthen rule of law and respect for human rights and 3. facilitating reconciliation within society. This transitional justice model will then be assessed with respect to other conflicts within West Africa, mainly Liberia and Cote d'Ivoire, and ask whether such a model would be both replicable and useful to helping strengthen ongoing peace building efforts in the region. |
