Through the course of research I encountered a small number of Muslims who were referred to
as “losing their way” or downplaying their Muslim identities after 9/11. For the most part, these
were high school and college students, who were dressing in American style clothes and
listening to hip-hop music. The topic of young people negotiating Muslim identities will be the
