For a discussion of neighborly relations between Muslims and Catholics in Bosnia after ethnic cleansing, see Bringa (1995). 7 This percentage reflects a comparison of gun permit applications from September 11, 2000 to November 20, 2000 and September 11, 2001 to November 20, 2001. 8 Through the course of research I encountered a small number of Muslims who were referred to as “losing their way” or downplaying their Muslim identities after 9/11. For the most part, these were high school and college students, who were dressing in American style clothes and listening to hip-hop music. The topic of young people negotiating Muslim identities will be the subject of a future paper.
