The protective mother
The school playground provides a social setting where the most salient identity is
that of ‘the good mother’. The mothers in the schoolyard rarely discuss their working
roles, therefore, within this context, the mother's professional identities can be seen as
functioning as backstage roles while their role as ‘mother’ becomes a frontstage
performance.
