Abstract:

This study takes a unique approach to examine socially constructed identities of women who work in PR in Russia. After providing a critical overview of the existent literature, the author proposes the use of social construction as a framework to analyze construction and management of multiple identities in discourses. Analysis of 13 in-depth interviews and 5 discussion groups with Russian female PR practitioners provided the basis for the argument that multiple identities are constructed and managed through discourses. The author also argues that through discourses female PR practitioners demonstrate hidden aspects of PR practices in Russia in general and proposes a number of implications for future studies of socially constructed identities in the field of PR
