Conflict style measures included:
1. Integrating: Both parties work together to resolve their conflict (other focused).
2. Compromising: Respondent and roommate make concessions and find an agreeable middle
ground (moderately other focused).
3. Dominating: Respondent tries to win his or her own position (self focused).
4. Obliging: the respondent satisfies the roommate’s goals at the deprivation of his or her own
interests (other focused).
5. Avoiding: the respondent puts off or avoids confronting the roommate about the conflict or
disagreement (self focused).
Relational satisfaction after a reported conflict items
1. I was satisfied with my relationship with my roommate.
2. I was unhappy with my relationship with my roommate. (inverted measure)
3. I liked my roommate.
4. At that time I would have chosen to live with my roommate in the future.
5. My trust in my roommate increased.
6. I felt uncomfortable around my roommate. (inverted measure)
Present relational closeness items:
1. I have a close relationship with my first roommate.
2. I have no caring feelings for my first roommate. (inverted measure)
3. I expect further communication with my first roommate.
