Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Abstract: This survey of approximately 900 Chicago high schools students in 2000 focuses on calls to the police. Some of the findings indicate females were more likely than males to call the police; however, student race was not associated with calling. Females were also more likely than males to claim that officers tried to solve the problem. Youths who claimed they were members of a gang were more likely to call the police than non-gang members. Theoretical and policy implications are explored.
