Abstract:
|
This exploratory, undergraduate research examines sexual assault in three Western industrialized democracies. It is a comparative study that examines the relationships between the role of culture, politics, gender, historical foundations, legal structures, and sex offending in the United States, Canada and England. The study assesses criminal justice response to sexual assault in each nation, as well as patterns and reasons for underreporting. The study also examines key legislation including the Violence against Women Act of 1994 and the Sexual Offences Act of 2003. The study utilizes various research methods including: legal document analysis, record review, secondary data from informal interviews, journal and article reviews. Findings from the research may provide a basis for other undergraduate and/or master’s level research. |
