Abstract:

This paper investigates the relationships between community characteristics and community-based crime prevention (CCP) programs. We explore the connection between a community’s level of collective efficacy and the rate of program turnover in the community and the connection between collective efficacy and the rate of task specific programs implemented compared with non-task specific programs. We use multi-variate analysis and GIS mapping to analyse and visualise whether spatial dependency of CCP program types exists between communities. These analyses may help determine what community characteristics are likely to be related to the successful implementation and the sustainability of particular types of crime prevention programs.
