Abstract:

This poster will present the findings of an evaluation of an alcohol education program provided to high risk college students. All new members of the Greek system (both fraternities and sororities) at a public university in Pennsylvania were required to participate in alcohol education classes. The program consisted of three 2-hour classes provided over a seven week period. Topics discussed during the sessions included: reasons for drinking, standard drinks, blood alcohol concentrations, sex & alcohol, alcohol and the brain, alcohol absorption, tolerance, consequences of alcohol use, drunk/buzzed driving, sexual assault, and risk reduction strategies. Levels of alcohol and other drug use were evaluated at pre-test, post-test, and 5-month follow-up.
