Abstract:
|
It is often assumed that perceptions of crime and perceptions of disorder are separate constructs, but there is reason to suspect that crime and disorder are actually two facets of the same construct. The purpose of the current research is to: 1) Determine the relative fit of a one-, two-, and three-factor model on a sample of rural and urban respondents; and 2) Assess the similarities and differences between rural and urban respondents in terms of the best-fitting model or in terms of measurement and factor invariance across models. The results of this study will shed light on the relationship between perceptions of crime and perceptions of disorder and will guide future research on crime and disorder in rural versus urban areas. |
