Abstract:

The session will include interactive discussion on the development of unique leadership preparation programs that produce quality school leaders. Special attention will be given to the collaboration with P-12 public school partners to design effective mentoring and internship components.

A Journey to a New Level of Leader Preparation Section I: Content Statement of the Problem In response to a growing demand for quality school leaders and by recommendation of such organizations as the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) universities around the nation must develop and/or revise educational leadership programs that among other things (1) “give significantly more emphasis to preparing leaders who can improve the core function of the school curriculum – instruction and student learning; and (2)
partners. 4. Identify at least three strategies for effective mentoring and internship development in leadership programs. Methods The session will include interactive discussion to support program objectives. The session will begin with a brief overview of the significance of leader development in P-12 schools. The session leader will use a PowerPoint presentation to guide the discussion and maintain the organization of the presentation.
