Abstract:
|
This paper explores the relationship between presidential campaigning on behalf of candidates for the United States House of Representatives in the 2002 and 2006 midterm elections and voter turnout in those congressional districts. Using voter turnout in the 2004 Presidential Election as a base, I proceed to measure the change in voter turnout between that election and the 2006 midterm election. I also measure the difference in voter turnout in the same districts in 2002 and 2006. A multivariate statistical model is used to explain differences in voter turnout between elections. The model provides some support for the hypothesis that presidential activity on behalf of candidates for the U.S. House affects the rate of voter turnout. |
