Abstract:
|
Far from being irrelevant to the study of Africa's IR, approaches within 'Western' IR offer a potentially rich research agenda. However, to realise this potential means moving beyond neo-realism. This paper focuses on the 'aid relationship' between official donors & Afrian states as a centrepice of Africa's insertion into the global system, drawing on liberal & Marxist models of IR. This illuminates coopertion & conflict over ODA, patterns of asymmetrical interdependence & the achievability of Western donor policies. |

Comments are very welcome.) Abstract This paper argues that far from being an irrelevance to the study of Africa’s international relations existing approaches within IR offer a potentially rich research agenda for this field. |
| Gruffydd Jones has usefully argued (2005) 17 Reference to this as yet unpublished work by Bromley and Rosenberg is with the authors’ permission. However note that this is an unfinished work in progress at an early stage. 18 In this regard he cites Brett’s 1994 comment on Uganda: ‘commitment to the political and economic discipline demanded by structural adjustment is probably more widely accepted by the leadership now than ever before and thus [is] less dependent on continuing external |
