Abstract:
|
Using data from the 2004 National Annenberg Election Survey, this project assesses the relationship between late-night comedy viewing and various political characteristics and behaviors that have normative implications. Results indicate that viewers of The Daily Show are more likely to discuss politics, participate in politics, and feel efficacious than non-viewers. However, the beneficial effects of exposure appear to be selective, as political knowledge plays a significant role in deepening the already-wide participation gap between sophisticates and know-nothings as a function of late-night comedy exposure. |
