Abstract:

This paper will present results of a mixed-methods study on the Chinese School of Delaware that looks at challenges and opportunities the school faces in teaching Chinese to heritage versus non-heritage learners, two different groups that want to learn the language. It has practical lessons for the school, and insights for other ethnicities that are trying to preserve or share their language amidst changes in their population brought about by assimilation and interracial marriages.
