Abstract:
|
This paper explores how case characteristics and institutional features affect media coverage of state supreme courts. To consider this relationship, I examine news coverage of the decisions of 20 state supreme courts during calendar year 1998 and match them to the coverage of the state capital newspaper. I find that while case characteristics and media characteristics influence a case's probability of receiving coverage, the characteristics of the judiciary do not have a statistically or substantively significant effect on a case's probability of receiving coverage. |
