Abstract:
|
Though many studies do show that nonphysical and emotional abuse do exist on a continuum with physical violence and/or be part of the same pathway, only examining nonphysical violence does not seem to be the crux of intimate partner violence research, and statistical evidence on this topic is almost nonexistent. This study is intended to contribute to the intimate partner violence literature by examining other forms of violence and abuse that is largely neglected by social scientists, sociologists, and criminologists. This research will examine the controlling behavior and emotional abuse towards women. Data are from the survey of Violence and Threats of Violence Against Women and Men in the United States, 1994 through 1996 (NVAWS). Findings and conclusions are discussed. |
