Fear of Crime and Confidence in the Criminal Justice System - Results of a State-wide Survey

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Get this Document | Similar Titles

Abstract:

Theory and some empirical research have linked fear of crime with perceptions of and confidence in the police. Less attention has been given to the effect of confidence in other aspects of the criminal justice system upon fear of crime. This presentation reports findings from a 2004 state-wide survey of adult residents (n=541) in Mississippi regarding fear of crime, confidence in the police, prosecutors and judges as well as other aspects of the criminal justice system. Results of a series of descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate analyses are discussed and implications for theory and policy are presented.
