The Political Impact of Unequal Education of Floating population in Urban China |

Along with the booming Chinese economy and fast-paced urbanization, the Chinese floating population is constantly increasing, and the float mode has been transformed from “decentralization” to “family ” style. According to the report of the 5th censes in 2000, the scale of the Chinese floating population has increased to one hundred million people in which the proportion of the children is 19.37%, and the rate of the dropping out of school has up to 9.3%. The education problem of the floating population, thus, becomes one of the most significant facing China. Under the present urban education system, 20 million floating population who are school-year children yearn for the opportunity to be educated equally. Based on the interview data from the floating population in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, this study will describe the unequal conditions about the educational opportunity, the educational process, the educational quantity and the educational consequence, and discuss how to integrate the education of the floating population into China’s regular obligation educational system. |
