Abstract:

This paper examines the importance of social ties in community development efforts. The authors provide evidence of the network of relations among organizations involved in the increasingly important area of affordable housing. The results of a mail survey are used to increase the predictability about the roles local non-profits play in the implementation stage of community development efforts, with whom they form such ties, and for what purpose they develop and maintain their relationships. The results suggest that the structure of collaborative management is related to interorganizational trust and social capital, which are considered important mechanisms for facilitating partnership development and collaborative management.
