my ancestors and my unborn chilren (sic), that I deserve to take the rest of the day off, take a long cold
shower, a hefty mound of pounded yam and ogbono soup and sleep until Sunday morning. The news
coming from around the country is obviously discouraging and is what was expected from I-MESS, I
mean I-NEC ,the electoral body. Which brings me to the subject of disorganization. When will Nigeria
and Nigerians get organized. Everything is a problem, a fight, big-big wahala. Census na kwanta, Voters
registration the same thing, election sef na by the miracle of God we have am.
Voting in Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections ended in many parts of the country at
5pm. Reports from across the country indicate that the exercise was characterized by low voter turn-out.
INEC Chairman, Professor MAURICE IWU, is describing Saturday’s elections as satisfactory despite
some hitches experienced in many States.
Security has been beefed up at the INEC headquarters in Abuja following an attempt to blow it up this
morning with petrol tanker allegedly filled with explosives (emphasis in italics added: loan words and
Nigerian Pidgin clauses).
It is evident that the 21 April elections failed to meet the expectations of the Nigerian people. The same old problems of
electoral fraud and voting malpractices reared up their ugly head. In fact, an attempted arson was reported in Abuja, the
Federal Capital Territory.
The post-General Elections blogs highlight several aspects of the entire 2007 electoral process. Some of the results are
still being challenged in different law courts including the validity of the Presidential Election itself. It is anticipated
that post-elections blogs on the 2007 elections will be on the increase. As each controversial result is either validated or
invalidated, bloggers will add their comments.
From the data presented so far, it is striking to note that the bloggers whose activities have been mentioned or referred
to blog to positively contribute to the electoral process. Again, with this kind of selfless service, blogging is a form of
work.
