Abstract:
|
Incarceration rates are higher in the U.S. than any other country. Recividism rates remain very high. Ex-cons leave prison with stigmas which affect their employment rates. The U.S. has an economic policy which does not tolerate full employment. If ex-convicts tend to fall in the less-desirable segment of the workforce, the last-hired and first fired, what types of employment might give them some advantage to offset their stigma? What is the relationship of work to recidivism? |

| housing usually prohibits those with criminal records from living there so housing is another problem for those released from prison. In 1 addition to economic functions work is also important for socializing with conventional contacts a fact well-supported by various social control perspectives. Self-esteem is our culture is also very work-related. So what jobs what types of work are conducive to lowering recidivism rates? I would like to lead a discussion on this topic focusing on types of work |
