Latino and that makes them a race now. Any attempt by anyone, but especially by Latino politicians or activists to defend themselves or immigrants is interpreted by the anti-immigrant movement as an act of war against the interests of America and an attempt to ethnically cleanse white Americans. Spencer continued:

Radio DJ: California is going to become a Hispanic state and anyone who doesn t like that should leave, did you say that? Mario Obledo: I did. They aught to go back to Europe. A third voice: And you don t think that we hear that?Another DJ sounding voice: & and then when the Hispanics take over, then we re not going to have freedom of speech anymore; you re going to tell us what s okay to say; you re going to tell us& you know it s one thing to cry fire in a crowded theatre; it s another thing to set a fire, which you re about to do!
That s Mario Obledo. One of our associates put up this billboard out in Blythe out in the middle of the desert and it said, California, The Illegal Immigration Alien State, & and then [Obledo] threatened to burn it down. He issued a press release and he was going to blow it up, right? And then he went on to tell Los Angeles, said these & outrageous things; this is going to be a Hispanic state, a Mexican state. He uses the term interchangeably; if you don t like it, leave it. He s the co-founder of MALDEF, winner of the presidential Medal of Freedom; he s talking about ethnic cleansing. (Spencer, 2002)
In the opinion of the anti-immigrant activists, government officials at every level, particularly Latino politicians, combined with college professors and Chicano who activists promote immigration, in combination with an otherwise apathetic general population, doom America.
You re dealing with a great many violent cultures. Their actions are totally
acceptable in their country. They re not acceptable here. I m x-Anaheim P.D.. Abuse, family violence, hey! ...It s acceptable in their country.& You re looking at violent crime. You re also looking at gang participation& . Disease.& tuberculosis, hepatitis C, HIV, the whole bottle of wax.& And we also have a common recognized common enemy - primarily common enemy which is not the immigrants. It s our treacherous, traitorous, seditious, follow the money, follow the vote politicians and that s the bottom line. That s the bottom line, you know? Welcome them in and then use their vote.& Mr. Bush is an illegal alien lover. He loves their votes and anybody who tries to tell me any differently? Forget it.
