Abstract:

Does globalization bring forth fundamental institutional changes in national political economy? In this paper, I claim that domestic political institutions take a critical role in mediating the forces for change in markets. With a comparative case study of labor market reforms in Japan and Korea since the late 1980s, this paper argues that political and economic coordination mechanisms account for variations in the scope of reform agendas and policy outcomes.
