Abstract:
|
In classrooms where the climate is purposefully conversational, students can feel comfortable introducing personal information about themselves. But when information is shared either with the entire class or just with the instructor, in what ways does it impact the choices the instructor must make in using classroom examples? In this part of the roundtable there will be an exploration of some personal classroom revelations and how these moments of self-disclosure can (and have) changed the approach to the course materials. One example that will be discussed refers to a female student revealing she was a victim of a recent violent and sexual crime. The discussion will provide suggestions for ways to negotiate similar situations. |
