Abstract:

This study investigates different types of biased information processing in political judgment based on the heuristic systematic model (HSM). When the issue is not familiar (ambiguous message) but source liability (candidate preference) is established, systematic biased processing is expected for highly involved voters(high interest in politics) whereas heuristic biased processing is expected for less involved voters (low interest in politics). Hypotheses will be tested with foreign policy issues of candidates for the 2008 presidential election.
