Abstract:

Parasocial interaction (PSI) is now thought of as a common occurrence among television viewers. However, one area yet to be explored is the different types of characters that viewers interact with. This study creates a typology of television characters based on perceived realism in order to examine whether there are differences in levels of PSI with different types of characters. Past predictors of PSI are also examined with regards to each type of character.
