Abstract:

We develop a simple model of the relationship between campaign contributions and political influence that allows us to derive a variety of implications relating the time members spend raising funds for themselves and for their legislative caucuses to institutional and political characteristics of legislative chambers, to personal characteristics of legislators and political characteristics of their constituencies.
Using data from a national survey of state legislators, Bayesian multi-level models are utilized to test hypotheses generated by the model. |
