Abstract:

I test a three-factor model of Social Identity to (a) examine its fit in party identification, (b) test for differences between Republcians and Democrats, and (c) compare the explanatory power of Ingroup Affect, Ingroup Ties, and Centrality.

In general being a(n) (ingroup member) is an important part of my self-image. The fact that I am a(n) (ingroup member) rarely enters my mind. (Ingroup Affect) In general I’m glad to be a(n) (ingroup member). I often regret that I am a(n) (ingroup member). I don’t feel good about being a(n) (ingroup member). Generally I feel good when I think about myself as a(n) (ingroup member). (Ingroup Ties) I have a lot in common with other (ingroup members).
