Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Abstract: This paper looks at the rhetorical implications of a virtual 9/11 memorial built in Second Life. It highlights the artifact’s potential for individual agency, for accessibility and for shared experiences, while acknowledging the limitations of the medium. The rhetorical effectiveness of a memorial in a virtual world is contrasted with that of a physical memorial and implications for future memorializing are discussed. |
