Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Review Method: Peer Reviewed Abstract: This study investigates the consequences of forced migration resulting from civilian conflict in Nepal. We use primary data collected through a public opinion survey of displaced Nepali women and test the effects of a variety of factors on the social costs of war. We focus specifically on the physical and social consequences of war and their impact on the health and education of women and children. The results offer new findings on the impact of civil war – that detachment of families from cultural practices and rituals are as significant as the impact of physical threat in damaging health and education of a society. Social costs of civil war go beyond the immediate need to rebuild and reconstruct physical infrastructure. |
